In what can be called an easy win, Banjara Hills corporator Vijayalaxmi R Gadwal of Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) is elected as the Mayor of Hyderabad on Thursday. Defeated Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)’s nominee RK Puram corporator Radha Reddy, Vijayalaxmi, the daughter of Rajya Sabha MP and senior party leader K Keshavarao was elected as the Mayor under dramatic circumstances.
M. Srilatha Reddy, also of the TRS and the corporator from Tarnaka, was elected the Deputy Mayor defeating the BJP’s Shankar Yadav. While AIMIM extended support to the TRS candidates by voting in their favour, BJP corporators raised ‘Jai Shri Ram’ and ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ slogans immediately after announcing the results.
Narrowing down on the political background of Vijayalaxmi, is a two-time Corporator from the Banjara Hills division and belongs to BC (Munurukapu) caste which played a vital role behind TRS chasing her as the candidate. She holds a BA in Journalism, pursued LLB and later left for the U.S.A. She went to America. She came back to India in 2007.
Coming to Deputy Mayor Srilatha Reddy, she has been playing an influential role in the party as state secretary general of the TRS women’s wing. While her husband is a noted TRS follower who rendered services as trs employees union president, Srilatha Reddy grew to fame with her boutique business.
