Tampered ballot papers..re-polling 69 polling booths…poor voter turnout…while the most-discussed GHMC polls have a list of disappointments and controversies around it, debates are now around the booth number 24 which had a 17-year-old as presiding officer on Tuesday.Raising concerns over the deployed officials at the polling centres, a student who doesn’t have a right to vote was spotted at booth number 24 in ISI Sadan division 38, Singareni Colony. The incident came to limelight after a politician visited the polling booth and enquired the age of the young man.
The 17-year-old student who wore an identity card which read as ‘A. Varun, HUDA student’ was seen performing the duties of an assistant presiding officer which is usually held by a government or contract employee. Besides filing a complaint at the state election commission, the party leaders raised concerns over the negligence of authorities.
