A local court in Warangal awarded death sentence for 24-year-old Bihar man Sanjay Kumar Yadav, accused of killing nine persons of a family and dumping their bodies in a well at Gorregunta. In the judgement passed by Warangal Sessions Court judge K Jaya Kumar, within 36 days of the court taking up hearing of the case after remaining shut due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
60 witnesses in the case along with circumstantial evidence were presented by the investigators and prosecutors. Investigators completed the investigation in a record time and filed a 475-page charge sheet on July 28. According to the charge sheet filed, the accused had killed the family of 56-year-old Maqsood Alam from West Bengal who used to work at a gunny bag manufacturing unit in Gorrekunta.
The accused has reportedly carried out the nine killings to cover up the murder of a woman Rafika with whom he allegedly had an illegal relationship. Rafika used to live with her three children in Gorrekunta village, was a migrant worker from West Bengal. The suspicion of mass murder was confirmed when scratch marks were found on the bodies by the forensics team, indicating that the bodies were dragged to the well.
The convicted man, was however, given an option to move the High Court against the capital punishment given to him.
