Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan has directed the police to submit a full report on the Saroor Nagar defamation case. The governor was responding to reports that Nagraj had been assassinated in the wake of an interfaith marriage. She directed the state government to submit a comprehensive report on the possible reasons for the murder. She tweeted that steps should be taken to ensure harsher punishments for the accused.
Billapuram Nagraj of Marpalli village in Rangareddy district works as a salesman in a car showroom in LB Nagar. Nagraj fell in love with Syed Ashrin Sultana, who lived in Ghanapur village near Marpalli.
From falling in love, the story went up to both of them trying to get married. But the wedding was thwarted by their elders. With this, they both got married in Arya Samaj in secret, against their parents’ wishes. The two later settled together in Visakhapatnam.
Recently they moved Nagraj to Hyderabad. Ashreen’s brother Nagraj plotted to assassinate them. On Wednesday night, Nagraj and Ashreen were interrupted by some people while they were going somewhere together on a bike. Nagraj was immediately attacked with deadly weapons. Nagraj died in the assault. The accused then fled the scene. Police carried out blow-up operations for the accused. Eventually, the culprits were caught and arrested.
