Three days after the global toll touched 1 million, India on Saturday touched the grim milestone of one lakh fatalities accounting 10 per cent of the global COVID deaths. According to global statistics, India is now the third country to cross 1,00,000-mark after the US and Brazil.
The grim milestone comes as India reported 1,069 deaths in the last 24 hours, taking the total toll to 1,00,842 in the world’s second-worst affected nation. According to the latest reports from the union health ministry, the Indian states and union territories logged 79,476 new cases taking the total caseload to 64,73,545.
The total cases include 9,44,996 active cases, 54,27,707 cured/discharged/migrated & 99,773 deaths, confirmed Ministry of Health & Family Welfare. A total of 7,78,50,403 samples tested for Covid-19 up to October 2. Of these, 11,32,675 samples were tested on Friday.

Meanwhile, Telangana recorded another 1718 positive cases of Covid-19 Friday, taking the cumulative caseload to 1,97,327 cases. To date, 1,153 persons have succumbed to the disease while the total number of recoveries stand at 1,67,846.
Andhra Pradesh, on the other hand, registered 6,555 new coronavirus infections as of Friday’s health report, taking its total tally to 7,06,790 lakh cases. The death toll now stands at 5,900 with 31 new fatalities across the districts.
