Tensions ran high in Telugu states especially in Telangana with rumours over H5N8 strain of bird flu cases on Wednesday.
With the number of epicentres in the country increasing to 12 in states like Kerala, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh, the Union fisheries, animal husbandry and dairying ministry issued all necessary advisories to all the state governments.
Andhra and Telangana, on the other hand, reported no cases so far, while the respective state governments have rapid response teams to tackle the situation.
Check posts are set up in border areas for prohibiting the transportation of poultry and poultry products from Kerala and to allow poultry transport vehicles.
Telangana state animal husbandry minister T Srinivas Yadav held an emergency meeting with the top officials to review the preventive measures to be taken.
He recalled that 1,300 official teams have been conducting tests and organising orientation programmes for poultry feeders in the State for the past few years.
