The resignation submitted by minister of food processing industries Harsimrat Kaur Badal on late Thursday was accepted by President of India Ram Nath Kovind, confirmed the official press release.
The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader took to her social media account to announce her decision in protest against the three farm Bills tabled passed by BJP-led Central government in parliament.
I have resigned from Union Cabinet in protest against anti-farmer ordinances and legislation. Proud to stand with farmers as their daughter & sister.

“The President of India, as advised by the Prime Minister, has accepted the resignation of Smt. Harsimrat Kaur Badal from the Union Council of Ministers, with immediate effect, under clause (2) of Article 75 of the Constitution,” the communique issued on Friday said.
In an immediate effect, Narendra Singh Tomar was assigned the additional charge of the Ministry of Food Processing Industries. “As advised by the Prime Minister, The President has directed that Shri Narendra Singh Tomar, Cabinet Minister, be assigned the charge of the Ministry of Food Processing Industries, in addition to his existing portfolios,” further read the press released.
Harsimrat’s resignation has brought the long-standing glitches between Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) public while the latter is the oldest ally in Punjab. This triggered strong protests in Punjab and Haryana by farmer organisations.
