A High-Efficiency Particulate Air Mask a.k.a HEPA mask which is proved to be the second-highest level of the filter in the world (99.997% efficiency) made its Parliament debut on Monday. Senior Rajya Sabha MP Dr Narendra Jadhav was potted wearing the mask to the parliament sessions.
The mask not only stood as the talk of the day but also grabbed the media’s attention. Addressing the media, Narendra Jadhav stated that the HEPA filters used in the mask are approved by FDA (US) and European regulators and are more efficient than N-95 masks.
However, what very few members know is that the mask was developed by former Chevella MP Konda Vishweshwar Reddy. Speaking about the mask, the engineer-turned-politician Vishweshwar Reddy said that when he wore the same mask when he first approached the MP and readily accepted to use it.
“I am happy that he attended the Parliament sessions with our mask which attracted the nation’s attention now,” he added. Vishweshwar Reddy also stated that around 80 masks are currently being produced for various industrialists. Reportedly, the special mask, developed over 7-8 months, is now ready to go into production.
Once available in market, the mask might be priced around Rs 6,000.
