Questioning the legality over the step taken by the state government to introduce mandatory English medium from Class 1 to Class 6 in all government schools, AP High Court on Friday issued notices to the government to file a counter-affidavit stating the reason behind the move. In the line of two separate Public Interest Litigations filed by Rambhotla Srinivas and Dr G Srinivas, a bench with Chief Justice J K Maheswari & Justice M Venkata Ramana took up the arguments which led to the stay on the government’s decision. The petitioners argued that it has to be the ultimate decision of children and parents to select their medium of instruction. Stating that the final decision will be taken by the court, the case was adjourned for further hearing to January 27.
