Hyderabad: The state Police faced a tough time in Karimnagar on Friday around the cremation of RTC employee Nangunuri Babu who died of a cardiac arrest. While the striking employees, union leaders and opposition leaders tried to take Babu’s body to the RTC deport, the police force stopped them which lead to high tensions in Karimnagar.
Nangunuri Babu, who worked as the RTC driver collapsed at a meeting in Saroor Nagar on Wednesday suffering from a heart attack. The agitations took the wild form after the police shifted the body to Babu’s house in the wee hours of Thursday. The outraged RTC JAC and Opposition leaders called for a bandh which was attended by Karimnagar MP Bandi Sanjay, Mandakrishna Madiga, MLC Jeevan Reddy, Sridhar Babu, TPCC Working President Ponnam Prabhakar, Telangana Janasamithi President Pro. Kodandaram, CPI leader Chada Venkata Reddy, and CPM leader Veerabadram.
While the striking employees went on a procession heading towards the depot, the police stopped them which led to a heated argument. Later, upon the orders from the Police Commissioner of Satyanarayana Babu’s body was cremated under high security. Protesting the way police dealt them, the union and opposition leaders went for a sit-in protest on the highway.
