With the death toll hiking with each passing day across the world, including the US, Canada, Australia and France, top-notch scientists are now into examining various drug combinations which can tackle the spread of the dreadful disease. According to the sources, the number of deaths reached 106 while more than 4,000 people were now affected by the virus. China government has deployed special teams of scientists who are working round the clock to come with a cure. On the other hand, reports revealed that various health centres across China were reportedly using a combination of two drugs which are said to show satisfactory results. Hospitals in China are now using a combination of two drugs, lopinavir and ritonavir which were later revealed to be the ones used to combat HIV.
Into details, according to the reports from local media, the Health advisory of China has advised the doctors to treat the infected patients with lopinavir and ritonavir in tablets form twice a day. However, the hospital sources revealed that the patients are being treated with the above AbbVie’s HIV drugs combination only in the absence of any effective anti-viral drug. They statted that a dose of alpha-interpheron through nebulisation twice daily is the basic treatment.
Meanwhile, the US National Institute of Health has announced its collaboration with Chinese scientists to figure out a vaccine against the new coronavirus. “We are investigating the genetic code of the virus which plays a crucial role in developing a potential vaccine. But vaccine development is not a fast process, and we are not sure if it will be ready by the time the current epidemic ends,” said Peter Hotez, professor and dean of the National School of Tropical Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine (BCM) in Houston.
