Serum Institute of India (SII) plant in Manjari near Hadapsar which is engaged in large scale production of Corona vaccine Covishield met with a major fire accident on Thursday. According to the initial information, no person is trapped inside the under-construction building.

However, the company stated that the production of Covishiled, however, was not being carried out at the SII building where a major fire broke out. While the under-construction building is adjacent to the plant where Covishield is being produced, the cause of the fire at the plant is yet to be known.
To recall, the company has tied up with pharma firm AstraZeneca and Oxford University for the production of Corona vaccine Covishield.
