BJP activist who set himself ablaze five days ago in front of the State unit office at Nampally succumbed to the burns on Friday.
Srinivas, a resident of Tammalani Gudem village in Yacharam Mandal who suffered 60 per cent burns was undergoing treatment in a private hospital doused himself with fuel while he was protesting the detention of State unit Chief Bandi Sanjay Kumar.
According to the eye witness at the protest, Srinivas took the extreme step as he was upset over the consequences followed by Bandi Sanjay’s arrest. Reportedly, Srivas doused himself with petrol and set himself ablaze raising slogans against the state government.
The police and local BJP workers noticed him in flames, doused it and rushed to OGH hospital for treatment. He was later shifted to a private hospital in Secunderabad where he died while undergoing treatment.
Following his death, the police beefed up security across the city anticipating protest rallies. The additional police force was deployed near the hospital and in Yacharam.
