While the annual Beating Retreat ceremony was going on at Vijay Chowk where President Ram Nath Kovind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other senior members of the government had gathered, a low-intensity explosion was reported few metres away from the embassy of Israel.
While the initial reports stated no injuries to people, the impact of the explosion shattered the windscreens of at least three cars in the area.
The fire department received the call at 5.11 pm as the Beating Retreat ceremony was going on at Rajpath a few kilometres away.
Besides the forensic experts who are at the spot to lift the samples of the explosive, the Delhi police are paying close attention to the CCTV footages in and around Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Road.

Police sources said the explosive responsible for the blast had been wrapped up in a plastic bag and it appears that it was thrown from a moving vehicle.
On this note, security is beefed by across the city with heavy deployment of police and security personnel standing outside the embassy. The videos of which are going viral on social media.
