As the heavy rains continued to lash coastal Andhra under the influence of a deep depression since Monday night, the state on Tuesday reported two deaths in relation to rains different incidents.
The unfortunate incidents took place in Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada while the state authorities ramped up the rescue operations across the regions under red and orange zones.
In an incident that took place in Visakhapatnam, a car with four passengers got washed away in a stream near Gannavaram metta, which was overflowing on the road. While the remaining three managed to escape from the car and were later rescued by police later, the elderly woman who couldn’t manage to escape drowned to death.
In yet another rain-related accident, one person was buried in the debris as huge boulders of Indrakeeladri Hill fell on houses in Vidyadharapuram of Vijayawada. while the house was totally damaged, rescue operation by police to extricate him from the debris failed as the man was declared dead.
Meanwhile, a cargo vessel was drifted ashore at Visakhapatnam port in Tuesday due to heavy wind. Port authorities informed the Coast Guard, who will inspect the vessel and explore the possibility of retrieving it.
According to the reports from IMD, Yanam near Kakinada received the highest rainfall of 25 cm, followed by 19 cm rain in Amalapuram of East Godavari district, 18 cm in Tanuku in West Godavari, 15 cm of rain in Bheemunipatnam in Visakhapatnam, Kaikaluru, Tiruvuru in Krishna district, Palasa and Ichapuram in Srikakulam district.
