In a shocking turn of events, the total positive cases in India reached 85,940 surpassing the numbers in China, where the pandemic originated last year. With this India has become the latest country with more infections than the country where the pandemic began. While India continues to be under a strict nationwide lockdown imposed on March 25, the cases saw a drastic surge after the relaxations to economic activities.
According to data compiled by John Hopkins University, India, the second-largest nation stood as the 11th most corona hit the country in the world. This has come as an alarming fact for the Modi-led government which is n plans to lift the lockdown in a couple of days.
The country has been registering a roll of highest cases in a day with 3,970 fresh cases being the latest on Saturday. In its morning 8 AM update on Friday, the Union Health Ministry stated that the death toll has risen to 2,649 with more than 51,000 active cases, while nearly 28,000 have recovered, giving a recovery rate of over 34 per cent.
Meanwhile, in China, though some new cases kept emerging, less than 100 people are now undergoing treatment across China, which recorded 4,633 deaths due to COVID-19 but more than 78,000 have been discharged after recovery, as per their official data.
