New Delhi: In the first Innovation Index released by the NITI Aayog on Thursday, Karnataka topped the list while all the 29 states along with the Union territories competed. Sikkim topped in the Northeastern & hill states and Delhi was at the top in the union territories/city-states/small states segment in the index released by Aayog’s vice-chairman Rajiv Kumar and CEO Amitabh Kant. NITI Aayog along with Institute for Competitiveness as the knowledge partner has ranked the cities recognizing the role of innovation as a key driver of growth and prosperity for India. Followed by Karnataka which topped the list, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Telangana, Haryana, Kerala, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Gujarat, and Andhra Pradesh filled the next top nine spots respectively. The panel included Amitabh Kant, CEO, NITI Aayog; Ashutosh Sharma, Secretary, Department of Science; Renu Swarup, Secretary, Department of Biotechnology and Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, Secretary, AYUSH have stated that they considered Human capital, investment, knowledge workers, business environment, and safety and legal environment as the five enablers of innovation.
