There is no doubt in quoting that there is no other league that comes close to the buzz, entertainment, talent pooling drawn by the Indian Premier League (IPL). Like every year, the auction grabbed the nation’s attention while the organisers went for a mini-auction for 292 players – 164 Indian, 125 foreign, 3 associate nation players in 61 slots.
Setting the IPL auction records straight, South African all-rounder Chris Morris stood as the most expensive IPL buy ever shelled out Rs 16.25 crore for Rajasthan Royals. When it comes to players from Telugu states, four cricketers, two each from Telangana State and Andhra Pradesh were roped in by the franchises.
While Bhagath Varma, Yudhvir Singh Charak, Marram Reddy Harishankar Reddy were unheralded players, the fourth Kona Srikar Bharat from Visakhapatnam has been one of the promising wicket keepers and attacking batsman. However, what turned controversial is the absence of Hyderabad-based players in the Sunrisers Hyderabad franchise.
Former Indian captain and Hyderabad Cricket Association’s (HCA) president Mohammed Azharuddin took to his social media handles to slam the franchise.
Very disappointed not to see a single player from Hyderabad in the Hyderabad Sunrisers Team #IPLAuction @SunRisers @IPL
