In the wake of corona chaos all around, IPL and T20 updates tuned oasis to the cricket lovers who have been waiting for the mega event to hit it out of the park. While almost all the International sports authorities’ speculating over postponing all the events to next year, the International Cricket Council (ICC) called for a meeting decide on the fate of the 2020 T20 World Cup at its board meeting on Thursday.
If the information from the trusted sources is to be believed, the board is contemplating on postponing T20 event (scheduled to be held in Australia) February-March 2021, October 2021 or October 2022. On the counterpart, it was learnt that Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) wouldn’t want this to happen, as it would force them to hold two World Cups in the span of six months.
Adding strength to the rumours that IPL would replace T20, former India captain and ICC Cricket Committee chief Anil Kumble expressed his optimism about the Indian Premier League. He said that he remained hopeful that the tournament would take place this year. Meanwhile, a BCCI official as well on Wednesday said that if the Indian government allows them they will absolutely have the IPL in October-November later this year.
Meanwhile, Cricket Australia (CA) was also learnt to remain keen on hosting India’s year-end tour to Australia because of the television money it could fetch. It is to the common knowledge that the lockdown to fight back Covid-19 has led to IPL 13 being postponed and BCCI CEO Rahul Johri said last week that it could be held after the monsoon. In the wake of which, the ICC meeting going to be held on Thursday turned crucial to all the cricket fans.
