Hours after Indian railways confirmed that as many as 12 Corona infected took to the train services to travel, the largest commuting network announced an alarming decision on Sunday. In the wake of the PM calling for the Janata Curfew which is now on full force, Indian Railways cancelled all the passenger trains till March 31 to contain the spread of dreadful Coronavirus.
While the trains which had already commenced their journey will be terminated at the point of finishing their journeys, only goods trains will run from March 22nd. “All passenger train services on Indian Railways including premium train services, mail/express trains, passenger trains, suburban trains, Kolkata Metro, Konkan Railways, etc, will be cancelled till March 31,” the Railways said in a statement.
In the line of the recent decision taken, 12,000 train services will come to a halt while the railway authorities confirmed that no cancellation fee will be charged for the cancelled trains. The railways on Friday announced that nearly 3,700 passenger and mail express trains would be cancelled on Sunday till 10 PM following the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for a people’s curfew.
