Amidst the AP Decentralisation Bill chaos where every single support counts, least did the TDP cadre saw the rude shock from one of the party’s senior leader. Surprising everyone, former minister and TDP submitted his resignation to the membership of the Legislative Council on Tuesday. This move from Dokka’s end came close on the heels of TDP supremo Chandrababu Naidu instructions to all the MLCs to attend the council meeting to oppose the crucial bills. The senior leader who is said to be one of the loyalists to Chandrababu has not only skipped the council meeting but has sent the resignation to the party chief and the Council Chairman.
In his resignation letter Varaprasad said, “I’m opposing the division of Amaravati as the state capital. As Amaravati is being decentralised, I have decided not to contest all upcoming elections and I’m resigning as an MLC.” Shocking everyone, he also stated that he will remain away from the active politics in the near future. While the political analysts anticipated a few other resignations followed by, speculations went rife over the reason quoted by Manikya Varaprasad. With this happening, TDP leader Yanamala Ramakrishnusu in the council openly stated that YSRCP is trying to lure the TDP MLCs. Adding strength to his statements, Dokka Manikyam was rumoured to meet YSRCP minister Botsa, hours before submitting his resignation.
With all eyes on AP Legislative Council, the upper house of the legislature of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh as the bill needs to pass the council to take the complete shape on an official note, followed by the approval from Governor. The clear majority from TDP is indeed giving the ruling party a tough time. The council has a total of 58 members with 34 TDP members while YSRCP has 9 members.
