Former MP Ponnam Prabhakar has lashed out at the central and state governments for playing havoc with the lives of farmers in the procurement of grain. He was invited as the chief guest for the Mahatma Jyoti Bapule Jayanti celebrations organized by the Congress party in Husnabad town. He paid tributes and respect to the pictures of Jyoti Bapule.
Speaking on the occasion, he criticized the Union and state ministers for not being able to gently discuss the issue of Yasangi grain procurement and find a solution, but making accusations against each other. He lashed out at the two governments of neglecting their moral responsibility in this matter and politicizing the work of the peasantry.
“Will KCR who encouraged the farmers to cultivate rice crops will buy them now? or, will Sanjay buy the grains, as he keeps on talking about buying every last piece of it? We do not know that, but we will crack down on everything if farmers are in trouble. The government must respond to why it stopped buying the grains from farmers like it used to buy from last seven years,” questioned Ponnam.
Ponnam accused the TRS party of playing tricks on farmers by setting up rallies in Delhi right after the harvest came to a close. He recalled that Congress had warned two years ago that Telangana agriculture was moving towards rice. It is alleged that the farmers were provoked into not hearing that the increase in paddy acreage was not good. “Sanjay who earlier announced that he would stand by the farmers and agitate till the KCR government comes down regarding the purchase of grain now ran away with fear,” said Ponnam.
