This particular plotline combines with a number of outstanding performances and technicalities won a roll of Oscars this year including the best film. Yes, we are talking about ‘Parasite’, the first non-English movie which clinched the ‘Best Film’ award in the 92nd Academy Awards.
While all the fans who were familiar with the movies were all busy celebrating the sweeping win, the remaining cinephile who watched were left in shock with the spitting similarity with a Tamil movie ‘Minsara Kanna’ which featured superstar Vijay and Khushboo. Netizens started trolling the director Bong Joon Ho for copying the story. Things escalated quickly with the PL Thenappan, the producer of 1999 romcom ‘Minsara Kanna’ stating that he would send legal notices to Parasite filmmakers for lifting the main plot.
However, a section of film analysts opined it to be a sheer coincidence. “In that case Govinda’s ‘Hero No 1’ and Kamal Haasan’s ‘Kadhala Kadhala’ which had similar storylines,” said one of the analysts. Surprisingly, Jason film ‘Homefront’ also has similarities with ‘Parasite’. While a few came to Bong Joon’s rescue saying that parallel thinking does exist in the world. However, social media was seen decided with this similarity while the ‘Parasite’ team is yet to respond.
