While the neighbouring states have the number of testings in lakhs, Telangana which has been facing criticism over deliberately decreasing the number of testings took a couple of controversial decisions which further worsened the situations. Amidst the backlash over T-governments decision to refrain secondary contacts from Corona testings, reports speculating the Telangana government resorting to ‘Herd Immunity’ came as a shock to the health experts across the nation.
Claimed to be a double-edged sword, the concept came to limelight with global media speculating the Britain medial community resorted to Herd Immunity. While the country reportedly stopped it with the Prime Minister himself turning positive to the dreadful novel virus, the concept now hit to the news on India with rumours that Telangana which has been the worst-hit states in India.
What is this Herd Immunity..?
Herd Immunity is usually a concept where a significantly high proportion of individuals are either vaccinated against the viral infections or spread the disease deliberately so that they develop antibodies to fight against it. With less than 10 per cent of death rate and the Indian being comparatively more resistant to Corona. Unless until the infected already have ailments related to heart, lungs and kidneys, he or she can easily combat Corona as we Indians already vaccinated against Polio, BCG and Malaria. Seems like Telangana government is in plans to take advantage of this loophole.
Is it a wise decision..? What is health experts go on this..?
However, experts opined that if enough people are vaccinated, a virus is unable to spread through the population. However, the reality is that there is no vaccine for the coronavirus yet. Adding to this, the second wave i.e, cases where recovered people again being infected across the world increased the risk of opting the herd immunity concept. This would be a wild decision deliberately pushing almost 10 per cent of the population into risk.
This said, we have to wait and see if Telangana ramps up testings and tweak the mitigation strategies or rather opts with Herd Immunity concept which is claimed to be dangerous by global health experts.
