Be it the characters she opts or the stand she takes for what she believes, Vidya Balan is one such actor who relentlessly fought to ‘earn’ the image. The ‘Mission Mangal’ actress has opened up about her difficult journey to stardom. Vidya spoke about various things like the casting couch incident that traumatised her and the numerous rejections she faced in 15 years of her career.
In an interview with a renowned entertainment website, the award-winning actress said that a director in Chennai kept insisting on meeting her in a room. She said, “One day I remember I was in Chennai and this director came to meet me. I said let’s sit in the coffee shop and he kept insisting that he wants to talk to me and that we should go to the room. I left the door of my room open and he left within five minutes. This incident gives me a chill whenever it comes to my mind.”
Vidya also spoke about the time when she signed 12 Tamil films but ended up getting replaced on each one of them. “The agreements were verbal, and not written down. My parents flew to Chennai and spoke to the producer, who showed clips from the film and said, ‘Look at her, does she look like a heroine? I felt like shit and for months I didn’t look in the mirror.” She also that by time she realised that the key to being at peace with oneself is to know one’s own worth. “I have to accept and love myself the way I am,” Vidya said.
