When taken a look at the nine months governance of Jagan, targeting the Oppositions was evident in every possible move taken. Right from the demolition of Praja Vedika to Amaravati land issues, TDP was discursively targeted by the YSRCP government. While insider trading has been the main allegation made by the ruling party, it failed in bringing out the proofs despite a roll of investigations. In a recent revelation, the state government constituted a 10-member Special Investigation Team (SIT), headed by a Deputy Inspector General of Police-rank IPS officer, to conduct a comprehensive probe into alleged irregularities.
Led by Intelligence DIG Kolli Raghuram Reddy the team has a total of 10 police officers which will also function as a nodal single point contact just like a police station. In the line of the new orders issued by the state government, SIT has been given powers to call for any person or officer in connection with enquiry and investigation and to record the statements as per the provisions of CrPC.
This move from Jagan and his team received a wave of backlash from the oppositions while a few of the senior leaders stated it as a revenge strategy. “While his government ran out of every possible option, they resorted to forming an SIT. It is evident that the government has been deliberately targeting Opposition leaders,” said one of the leaders.
