Are the IAS officers appointed to ensure that decisions taken by the government are leading towards a better tomorrow, falling victim to the political vendetta? Yes, says the analyst upon noticing the political scenarios in Andhra Pradesh. Bureaucrats who are treated as pillars for the state administration and the invisible leading force behind the Chief Minister are now bound to turn puppet. Right from the bureaucratic reshuffle which transferred almost 32 IAS officers hours after assuming office to GOs that racked up new controversies which ultimately left the bureaucrats as the victims.
While a few IAS officials were left politically motivated, the others who stand loyal to their grounds are moving the pawns to get deputed at any cost. Trusted sources revealed the count of the officers who have serious plans of deputation reached to an alarming 21! Information is that most of the officials even confronted that the Chief Ministers and his ministers turn adamant whenever they propose something. And this is where the bone of contention lies! As the minister blames the IAS officials of turning a blind eye to their orders, the officials accuse the minister of the extremely short-sighted policy vision. Either minister wants them to adhere to orders of dubious legal validity or simply get out of their way. The same happened with the former Chief Secretary LV Subrahmanyam who was abruptly transferred showing insubordination as the excuse.
The bureaucrats in CMO have now turned into machines who just provide necessary information and sign wherever they were ordered to. Many political analysts reminded of the tenure of YS Rajasekhar Reddy during which the IAS officers fell prey. It was known that many of the officials suggested the Chief Minister to back off regarding the decision taken to sack thousands of Tirumala Tirupati Devastanam’s retired and outsourcing employees. The CM, however, went ahead which was termed as a sensational decision. The recent GO on replacing Abdul Kalam’s name with YS Rajsekhar Reddy for Pratibha Vidya Puraskar, breaking ties with the foreign investors are some of the instances which proved that Jagan is in loggerheads with the state’s bureaucrats.
