Prime Minister Modi has said that India continues to be ranked 46th in the Global Innovation Index. Recall that in 2015 it was ranked 81st. The Prime Minister met with 150 startup representatives from across the country via video conference. On this occasion, the youth were called upon to make the latest innovations for the country.
Modi has said that January 16 will be celebrated as National Startup Day in India from now onwards. There are currently more than 60,000 startup companies and 42 unicorn companies in the country. “We are also celebrating Startup India Innovation Week on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of independence,” he said.
Modi said the government was focusing on three areas: innovation, entrepreneurship, and the startup ecosystem. He hopes that 2022 will bring more opportunities to the startup sector. Last year, 28,000 patents were granted. Only 4,000 patents were granted in 2013-14. He said 2.5 lakh trademarks were registered in 2020-21.
The Prime Minister suggested that efforts should be made to find creative and technological solutions to the problems India is facing. The conference was attended by representatives of startups from the fields of agriculture, healthcare, enterprise systems, space, industry 4.0, security, fintech, environment, and more.
