Yet again Jagan-led government invited another row over the already rife religious fuss in the state. Adding fuel to the allegations that his government is taking decisions in favour of Christianity, Andhra Pradesh government has released notices which triggered new speculations. Announcing the enhancement of financial assistance to Christian pilgrimages, CMO issued a new G.O. in favour of the Christian community.
In the line of the released G.O. Andhra Pradesh government revived the financial assistance to Christian pilgrimage to Holy land of Jerusalem from an amount of Rs.40,000 to Rs.60,000 for the pilgrims whose annual income is up to Rs.3 Lakhs. In addition to this, the Minorities Welfare Department has hiked the financial assistance to pilgrims whose annual income is above Rs.3 Lakhs from Rs.20,000 to Rs.30,000. Besides Jerusalem, this G.O lies applicable to other Biblical places also.
This drew flak from Hindu activists from various communities backed by BJP leaders alleged the state government’s hand behind the demolitions of Hindu temples. This has courted controversies targeting the Chief Minister for allegedly aiming at developing a particular religious group. While the controversy about the change of medium in all government schools across the state is on the verge of fading out, this G.O has no doubt invited new headache for Jagan sarkar.
