While the nation is still stuck in the bitter scars left by police clampdown at the Jamia University in New Delhi, fear and chaos shock Jawaharlal University on Sunday. Leaving the students and staff in utter shock, a masked mob of goons broke into the campus on Sunday evening, assaulting students and vandalising property. The unprecedented violence left about 19 students and five teachers injured including the Aishe Ghosh, the president of the students’ union who suffered serious injuries. The videos of which went viral on social media with a wave of condemns from who’s who of all spectrums.
While the Delhi police claim to take the responsible into custody, various student groups across the country raised demands for the immediate resignation of Vice-Chancellor, Mamidala Jagdish Kumar. Hundreds of students gathered outside the city’s police headquarters to protest against the violence. Displaying the placards condemning the attacks, the students alleged the VC to join hands with goons to create chaos in the campus. It is to the known knowledge that the student association have been protesting for 70 days against privatization of the university.
