The farmers protested the Kamareddy master plan and intensified their agitation. On the second day, a bandh was called and the shops were closed all over the town. But Kamareddy was overwhelmed by the protest activities of Congress and BJP who supported the protest of the rice farmers to save the land.
Tension started once again when senior Congress leader Shabbir Ali came to Kamareddy to express solidarity with the farmers. Congress held a rally in support of farmers. This created tension at Indira Chowk. Shabbir Ali, Kisan Keth state leaders, and Congress ranks surrounding the dharna region are demanding the withdrawal of the master plan proposal. The police detained 100 activists including Shabbir Ali, Kisan Keth national leader Kodanda Reddy, and state president Anvesh Reddy. This created tension there.
But the Congress workers blocked the vehicle carrying Shabbir Ali. However, Shabbir Ali was taken to the police station in a police vehicle. However, senior Congress leader Shabbir Ali was angry that the district collector had insulted the farmer’s agitation yesterday. He mentioned that Congress will stand by the farmers affected by the master plan, and further demanded that the government give a clear assurance to the farmers that the master plan will be amended.
He criticized the behavior of the BRS government. He alleged that the government is trying to grab land in the name of the master plan. He said that the government is looking to do real estate business with government lands, adding that the movement will not stop until minister KTR announces the cancellation of the industrial proposal in Kamareddy farmers’ lands and the cancellation of the master plan. However, the tension in Kamareddy still continues.
On the other hand, BJP leaders organized a bike rally in support of the bandh. Rajya Sabha member Laxman said that the downfall of KCR started with the agitation of Kamareddy farmers. Minister KTR is talking about the death of a farmer. He asked if farmers are so mocking KTR. They demanded that a gram sabha should be held and a decision should be taken on the master plan in a legitimate manner.
But as for the reasons why the farmers are so opposed to the master plan, a consultancy from Delhi has prepared a master plan for the area of 61.5 square kilometers in 8 villages of Kamareddy. The officials who released the draft have been given an opportunity to raise objections till January 11, 2023. According to this plan, 1200 acres are proposed under industrial. About 900 acres of this land is close to the town next to the National Highway. Most of it has green crop fields. The farmers protested against this and started a movement. Farmers are raising objections to the proposal of 100 feet road. The government is insisting on changing the master plan.
