Marking the inauguration of Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme (KLIS), a brainchild of Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, Telangana government held Vedic rituals at the Kondapochama Temple during the wee hours of Friday. The temple where the Chandi Homam is being performed and the pump house that has six pumps of 34 MW each are decked up and the whole atmosphere around the project is festive.
Before inaugurating the project, CM KCR alongside his wife K. Shobha participated in Chandi Yagam, Sudarshan Yagam, Gangamma Puja and other rituals which were simultaneously held at the project and temple which is 30 km away from the project. Ministers T. Harish Rao, S. Niranjan Reddy, A. Indrakaran Reddy, V. Prashanth Reddy, MP K. Prabhakar Reddy, Rythu Bandhu Samithi chairman Palla Rajeshwar Reddy and several other ruling party representatives and functionaries were present on the occasion.
However, the occasion stirred a debate in the political circles in the wake of national-wide lockdown. While the state is struggling with the increasing number of cases, KCR and his team are now facing rife criticism over hosting rituals which witnessed over a crowd of about a thousand people at Konda Pochamma Temple. It was also observed that social distancing and minimal norms like facemasks were also not maintained during the rituals. This came in the wake of the state government itself banning religious gathering-even EID prayers.
