While the Center has decided to give its quota rice free to the poor, the Telangana government has given up on giving regular ration rice. As no decision has been taken on this yet, rice released by the Central Government is being distributed at the rate of 5 kg per quota.
While the central and state governments were giving 10 kg of rice to each white ration cardholder till November, the state is now distributing only 5 kg as the share is not given which triggered serious concern among the poor. It is to known knowledge that the central government has extended the program of distributing 5 kg of rice per month free of cost across the country till March next year.

The government which needs to come the rescue of the poor in state has issued orders to the Civil Supplies to distribute only 5 kg of rice given by the Center this month. As a result, the state government’s share of 2.8 lakh tonnes of free rice, which was supposed to be distributed free to beneficiaries this month is slashed. With which, over 2,87,44,273 are beneficiaries will receive only 5 kgs of rice from this month.
The state government had earlier announced that the free rice currently being provided under the state share would be a burden of Rs 110 crore per month for treasury. Now that the state has cut its share, which will save the government Rs 110 crore per month. This move drew public flak as the same government has been announcing crores of rupees for themes to lure the voters.
