Kodandaram, founding president of TJS, said the land could not be vacated without full resettlement and compensation. He expressed solidarity with residents and locals of Gudatipalli village, regarding the initiation of Siddipet district’s Gauravelli project.
He recalled that the NGT had given orders that the Gauravelli project would not start work without permission. But he alleged that the government was looking to do project work contrary to orders. He said the Supreme Court had ruled in the Narmada case that land occupants should not be evicted without full payment of rehabilitation and compensation.
He said the Supreme Court had earlier ordered that land to land and house to house be given to the people as compensation. But he was also incensed that the TRS government did not want to support the landless. He demanded that the government immediately provide compensation to the landless people of the Gauravelli project.
He warned that if the government tried to forcibly evict the landless people without compensation, it would be turned into a national issue. He said that they will fight till justice is done to the landless people.
