Is Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi becoming the main face of the party in Uttar Pradesh? Will she breathe back like life into the UP Congress? Yes, opined the political analysts going by the latest political situation in the state.
Priyanka’s fight for justice in the recent Lakhimpur Kheri incident before the Assembly elections has caught the attention not just in Up but in the whole country. Right from fighting back the police to reach Lakhimpur Kheri, to getting detained in Sitapur for almost 40 hours, to cleaning the rooms and finally meeting the families of the victims and comforting them, Priyanka’s every move has been the talk of the country. After which Priyanka grew into a powerful force and is been identified by political experts as the next contender for Prime Minister Modi in UP.
After ND Tiwari came to power in Uttar Pradesh in 1985, the congress flag was never flown there again. In the last election as well, Congress won just 7 seats out of the total of 403 assembly seats. However, this time the party is determined to fight hard and is seen to take advantage of every opportunity.
Many political analysts accepted that Priyanka’s daring step boosted the morale of the Congress cadre while a few argued that the high command should look into fielding Priyanka as the chief ministerial candidate in Uttar Pradesh is also coming to the fore. Already, people like senior Congress leader Salman Khurshid are making this demand. In fact, SP, BSP, and BJP have been following Priyanka Charishma’s lead in UP.
