It is to the known knowledge that on Sunday, four farmers were killed in UP’s Lakhimpur Kheri after a convoy of three SUVs, including one owned by Union Minister of State for Home Ajay Mishra, hit a group of farm protesters leading to a clash.
This incident has led to a major ripple in the country’s political circles especially in Uttar Pradesh. While a murder case has been filed against Mishra’s son, Uttar Pradesh Police Monday detained several opposition leaders, including former UP CM Akhilesh Yadav who attempted to reach the site.
Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra as well was detained by the Uttar Pradesh police as she headed to meet the families of four farmers killed in the violence. The videos of visibly agitated Priyanka yelling at the police trying to stop her are going viral on social media platforms. Priyanka was then held under house arrest in a guest house in the Sitapur district.
In a clip posted by the Congress party on its various handles, Priyanka Gandhi can be seen sweeping the floor using a broom. According to reports, the room where she was detained was not entirely clean and Priyanka Gandhi decided to do the work herself.
Sources also confirmed that Priyanka Gandhi is firm on her demand and she won’t go back without meeting the victims’ families and farmers. A large number of Congress workers have also assembled outside the place of detention in her support.
In a recent development, Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa and other MLAs were also detained while trying to reach the UP district.
