The brutal murder of advocate couple Gattu Vamana Rao and his wife PV Nagamani who kept waging legal wars with various PILs in the High Court has been drawing widespread flak from around the country. Despite the state police arresting the main accused- Kunta Srinivas, Chiranjeevi and Kumar and Bittu Srinivas, nephew of Peddapalli ZP chairman Putta Madhu various outfits continued to protest demanding a CBI enquiry into the murders.
The case on Saturday took an unexpected turn with national media unearthing a peculiar request filed by Circle Inspector (CI) of Manthani Police Station of Pedapalli district on 18th September 2020. An RTI filed the bar council of Telangana asking educational qualifications, the couple’s enrolled with the state’s bar council is now raising sharp criticism over the police involvement in the murder.
Besides digging the info if the lawyer couple had the protection of the bar council of Telangana, the state police asked whether the couple had any criminal cases pending against them. Is the RTI hinting over the police’s close eye on the couple..? Is the department already aware that the lawyers’ lives are in threat..? Did they deliberately look away..?
