Tirupati: With a row of controversies proving that Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) is turning a blind eye on the liquor ban on the sacred Tirumala, the trust has taken the decision to seek the state government to ban alcohol in Tirupati also. If the reports from the trusts are to be believed, TTD has already sent a proposal to the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh for making the Temple City alcohol-free. Reportedly, a board meeting was held by the TTD on Wednesday presided over by Chairman YV Subba Reddy. Subba Reddy stating that they would write to the Andhra Pradesh government to pass legislation to enforce the ban.
“We appreciate the liquor ban decision taken by the Chief Minister and his initiatives towards achieving it. In the same line, our board members agreed to the proposal to ban the sale and consumption of alcohol to Tirupati city as well. The two cities are inseparable,” he added. Merging Sri Venkateswara Institution of Medical Sciences (SVIMS) into TTD, construction works of Garuda Varadhi at ALipiri and setting up a spiritual theatre were the other proposals discussed in the board meeting.
