Hundreds of boozers thronging at the wine shops and kilometres long queue lines for a bottle of alcohol…in the wake of Corona pandemic, alcohol sale has become a main concern for the Supreme Court which made an interesting suggestion to the states.
Asking the states to consider non-direct contact sale of liquor, the Supreme Court suggested the state governments to look into home delivery of alcohol during the lockdown period to prevent the spread of coronavirus at shops. Refusing to pass any further orders, a bench headed by Justice Ashok Bhushan which took up the hearing through video conference stated the states should consider an indirect sale/home delivery of liquor to maintain social distancing norms and standards.
In the line of which, states like Chhattisgarh and Punjab have already started delivering alcohol to consumers’ home to avoid the spread of the novel virus. In a recent revelation, Uddhav-led Maharastra government also is speculating to home deliver alcohol.
