Independent Member of Parliament Mohan Delkar from Dadra and Nagar Haveli, was found dead hanging in a high-end hotel in Mumbai on Monday. The body of the 58-year-old MP who is a seven-term MP from the Union Territory reportedly left a note which shifted the suspicious to suicide angle.
“A suicide note has been found. Investigation is being done. The exact cause of death will be known after the post-mortem,” Mumbai Police said in a statement.
While the reports claimed that the note was written in Gujarati, the Mumbai officials snubbed them to be rumours. What Delkar wrote in his suicide note turned suspicious as the reason behind the death is still under probe.
While a probe is underway to ascertain the cause of Delkar’s death, Police confirmed that the MP’s driver, staying in the adjacent room, found Dalkar’s body hanging after he tried to open the room several times couldn’t open it.
Dalkar was the Congress president of Dadra and Nagar Haveli when he quit the party in 2019 to contest the national election as an independent. He had represented Dadra and Nagar Haveli in parliament since 2004. Delkar, 58, is survived by his wife Kalaben Delkar and two children Abhinav and Divita.
