Stating that the INX media scam was a “classic case of money laundering”, the Delhi High Court rejected Congress leader P Chidambaram’s anticipatory bail application on Tuesday. The court said that the fact which has weighed to deny pre-arrest bail to Chidambaram is “gravity” of the offence. The former minister also failed to get any immediate relief from the Supreme Court that was approached shortly after the High Court cancelled the interim protection from arrest.
Officials of the Central Bureau of Investigation(CBI) visited his home last evening and left a notice, asking him to present himself at the agency’s office within two hours of seeing it. Enforcement Directorate (ED) has now issued lookout notices against Chidambaram leaving the country. On this note, Mr Chidambaram’s lawyer has asked the CBI not to take any “coercive action” until the Supreme Court hearing on his petition for bail.
