#JusticeDenied. This has been the trending hashtag on all social media platforms after every single court hearing of Nirbhaya rape and murder case. In the latest revelation, Delhi court on Wednesday granted legal aid to Pawan Gupta, one of the death row convicts after he said that he did not have a lawyer to represent him in court. Expressing his displeasure over the delay in Nirbhaya gangrape case, Additional Session Judge Dharmender Rana issued instructions to appoint a new lawyer for the convict. The hearing received a roll of backlash from the family and netizens who took to social media to lash out on the convicts who are cleverly taking advantage of the legal loopholes.
Asha Devi, Nirbhaya’s mother who has been fighting the case for over seven years broke down in the court. Speaking to the media after the verdict, Asha Devi who darted out of the court hall stated that she is losing hope on the legal system. “I am wandering here and there to get justice for my daughter. These convicts are using delaying tactics. I don’t know why the Court is not able to understand this,” she said. Nirbhaya’s parents and the Delhi government had moved the court on Tuesday seeking fresh death warrants for the four convicts.
After which Asha Devi and her husband staged a demonstration outside Patiala House Court, demanding to execute the convicts as soon as possible. Nirbhaya’s parents were accompanied by women rights activist Yogita Bhayana, the women activist who was at the forefront of Nirbhaya movement. They raised the slogan “we want justice for Nirbhaya,” in the court premises.
