This is the story of yet another Sandili, the pious woman who carried her crippled husband in a basket and took him around, for his errands. Yes, Kumari of Chittinagar, Vijayawada similarly carries around her disabled husband, Shiva Prasad on her back.
Back in 2012, Kumari met Shiva Prasad while working at a binding and electrical shop in Chittinagar. Becoming fond of each other, despite their castes differences, they succeeded in attaining the blessings of the elders and entered into a wedlock. Three years passed happily with two children, both boys until fate struck them the hard way.
During one of his stays at his in-laws place atop the Chittinagar Hill in Vijayawada, Shiva Prasad fell to ground from the compound wall and broke his spine. He became disabled and had to depend on Kumari for even his pettiest needs. His limbs are now of no use to walk nor move around. However, this had not faded the confidence and love of Kumari towards her family and her husband. She started carrying him on her shoulders wherever he would have to go, along with taking care of her home and children. For almost 5 years now, this is the same situation and she has been struggling to bring her plight to the notice of the Government authorities. People would not allow her to rent their premises and even if they do, she is so burnt out financially that paying the rent and making both the ends meet is by far a harder chore for her on a daily basis…harder than even carrying around the burden of a fully grown man on her back!!!
Kumari reflects upon the sayings of Mother Teresa which is that a helping hand is much sought after and mightier than praying lips and requests the Government to identify her plight and provide her with a permanent shelter. She also requests good-hearted souls to come forward and help her ease out of her financial troubles, by which, she can at least provide good future for her two children and have good treatment for her husband!!
