In recent security revamp announced by the Maharastra state government, Master Blaster and former Rajya Sabha member Sachin Tendulkar lost his ‘X’ category security cover. In the line of the new announcement, ICC Hall of Famer will be deprived of the police protection including a police constable at the service round the clock. However, the officials confirmed that the government would provide Sachin with a police escort. In the wake of allegations that the previous government has been unnecessarily providing security cover to 45-odd high-profile citizens and politicians, the newly formed government took up a revamp security provided to 97 people.
The list also included BJP leader Eknath Khadse, former UP governor Ram Naik, lawyer Ujjwal Nikam whose services were deprived. Shiv Sena MLA and Maharashtra CM’s son Aditya Thackeray’s security cover has been enhanced from ‘Y+’ to ‘Z’ category. “The decisions will be taken by the threat perception committee which meets for every three months to review the reports from intelligence agencies, local police stations and independent agencies,” said one of the IPS officers.
