In a roll of unfortunate incidents across the country, at least 15 migrant workers died after being run over by goods train near Jalna in Maharashtra. By the time Indians starting recovering from the Vizag gas misery, the migrants were mowed down by a goods train on Friday morning. While 15 were dead, five other labourers were injured who are immediately rushed to Aurangabad civil hospital.
Reportedly, all the labourers were returning to Madhya Pradesh and were sleeping on the tracks after travelling for 35 kms when the mishap took place at about 5.15 AM. Expressing grief over the accident, Railway Minister Piyush Goyal instructed the officials to take stock of the situation. The railway ministry has launched a probe into the incident.
“During early hrs today after seeing some labourers on track, loco pilot of goods train tried to stop the train but eventually hit them between Badnapur and Karmad stations in Parbhani-Manmad section. Injured taken to Aurangabad Civil Hospital. An inquiry has been ordered,” Railways Ministry said in a statement.
The incident came close on the heels of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) started running special ‘Shramik’ trains to provide transport to migrant workers to reach their homes. However, reports revealed thousands of migrants are still finding it difficult to get access to the arranged special trains and buses.
