Pregnant Adivasi walks 20km to death
Questioning the health care standards offered to Adivasis, a shocking incident came into the limelight a couple of days ago. A pregnant Adivasi woman from an agency area in Visakhapatnam died after she was forced to walk around 20 km to consult a doctor. This has happened a week ago due to the lack of a proper road. Identified as Lakshmi, 28, died due to excessive bleeding, just days before she was due for delivery.
Lakshmi was forced to walk 20 km to consult an RMP and has developed labour pains on her way back. Despite the efforts to offer her proper treatment, Lakshmi and her unborn child died due to excess bleeding. When probed into the case, the Adivasis reported that this is quite common with them as their hamlets are several kilometres away from proper medical support. Officials have taken note of the incident and submitted a report to higher authorities.
