In a ghastly incident that came to limelight on Thursday, a Dalit teenager in Telangana’s Mancherial district was brutally thrashed and forced to drink urine for allegedly being in a relationship with a girl from another superior community.
While the incident reportedly took place on May 17th, the locals confirmed that the pair is in a relationship from the past one year. The boy who belongs to the Mala community, categorised as Scheduled Caste in the state apparently got a call from the girl followed by which they met at a temple in the outskirts of Ponkal village around 6.30 pm and didn’t return home that night.
After tracing them through common friends, the girl’s family brutally assaulted the victim with belts and sticks, stripped him and made him lie down on a hot stone. Not done with this, Harish Goud, one of the distant relatives of the girl, forcefully made the victim drink urine when he cried for water. “They even tried to drown him in a nearby stream,” alleged Venkatesh, a relative of the victim.
The victim who escaped from the attackers and reached the Jannaram police station, which was 1 km away. Filing a potion in the police station, the victim wrote that the girl’s relatives tore his clothes apart and asked why he needed their girl despite being a lower caste person. In a twist in a tale, the girl’s parents registered a counter-complaint against the victim and his three friends, levelling charges of kidnapping and rape attempt on their daughter.
