Redefining what beauty is, Miss South Africa Zozibini Tunzi was crowned as Miss Universe 2019 amidst thunderous applause and people waving the South African flag in the audience. Gleaming in a silver and blue gown, the 26-year-old black beauty beat over 90 contestants from around the globe in the 68th instalment of Miss Universe, which was held in Atlanta’s Tyler Perry Studios. Dedicating her crown to empowering young women and to breaking down the colour stereotypes, Zozibini Tunzi became the new global icon with her heartwarming speech at the event.

“I grew up in a world where women who look like me are not considered to be beautiful. I want to break the stereotypes and prove that with this kind of face and determination we can reach to the sky,” said Zozibini with teary eyes. Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray crowned Zozibini Tunzi while Miss Universe Puerto Rico Madison Anderson and Miss Universe Mexico are runner-ups. Steve Harvey hosted the glittery event while Television personalities Vanessa Lachey and Olivia Culpo were backstage commentators.
