Residents of Moosapet helplessly flashed back the unfortunate accident where a woman taking shelter under metro pillar died after a big chunk of plaster from the pillar peeled off and fell on her. The terrifying visuals from Moosapet metro station showing a large crater that had formed and the foundation of the metro pillars raised safety concerns amidst the increasing number of rain-related fatalities.
As the heavy rains continued to batter Hyderabad, more water kept accumulating at the pillar while the metro authorities barricaded to make sure no accidents occur. With all the news channels raising concerns over the crater, Metro MD NVS Reddy on Thursday jumped into scene assuring people that there is no threat to life.
Urging the people not to believe the rumours around the metro’s safety, the MD condemned the reports claiming that the pillar is on the verge of collapsing due to heavy rains. “The road at Moosapet has reportedly sunk a bit due to flooding from IDL Cheruvu and probably failure of some underground drain pipes. HRDCL engineers are attending to it and are rectifying the road,” he added.
However, various organisations and commuters continued to take to social media to raise concerns over metro constructions. On the other hand, GHMC from the past 24 hours registered over 1,400 complaints from different parts of the street.
