In a show of solidarity with the eight Rajya Sabha MPs who were suspended from the rest of the Monsoon Session of Parliament, Nationalist Congress Party chief Sharad Pawar on Tuesday reposted to a day-long fast.
“I will not eat anything today in solidarity with the protesting members. We will continue fighting for the farmers,” announced the leader.
In a Press conference, Pawar also condemned the conduct of Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Venkaiah Naidu and the Modi government’s decision while the country is blazing with protests against the bills.
“One suicide case is being talked about for the last three months. Ignoring other issues is not right. Farmers are also dying by suicide, the government needs to focus on that too,” stated that NCP Chief.
Further, Pawar expressed his happiness that the MPs did not accept the tea offered by the Dy chairman who suspended them in violation with the rule book. On the other hand, Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh Singh on Tuesday announced that he would observe a one-day fast against the unruly behaviour with him in the House by Opposition.
It can be noted that opposition parties, led by the Congress, on Tuesday announced that they would boycott the Rajya Sabha session till the government meets their demands. The suspended eight MPs as well joined the Opposition’s boycott of the rest of Monsoon Session.
Revoking of the suspension of eight members and not referring the bills to a standing or select committee were quoted to be the main reasons behind the boycott, the oppositions refused to cooperate to held sessions.
The Opposition has also demanded that the government brings a bill which should ensure private players don’t procure food grains below the minimum support price (MSP) fixed by the government.
